Guests arriving to the 2016 Met Gala will make their way from Fifth Avenue up the red and pink double helix “red” carpet, and into the Metropolitan Museum’s Great Hall. There, the double helix takes shape: a 65-foot structure rises from the center of the space made up of 80,000 red roses, 200,000 red silk roses, and laser-cut lace. The double helix is a motive that represents the intertwining relationship of handmade and machine-made in haute couture, resonating with the theme of the exhibition Manus X Machina.
