HKILA DESIGN MERIT AWARD 2016 THE CHALLENGE OF THE SITE IS THAT IT IS AN OVERHEAD POWERLINE CORRDIOR. THE NEGATIVE IMPRESSION OF OVERHEAD POWERLINES HAS KEPT THIS AREA NAD PARTICULARLY THE PARK FROM MAJOR UPGRADES TO ATTRACT PEOPLE TO USE THE PARK. OUR CHALLENGE FOR THIS PROJECT WAS WHETHER WE CAN CHANGE THIS NEGATIVE IMPRESSION INTO SOMETHING POSITIVE. OUR CONCEPT WAS TO RENOVATE POWER PYLONS SO THEY BECOME ARTISTIC SCULPTURE ELEMENS WHICH CAN BE SEEN BY DAY AND LIGHT UP AT NIGHT. THE URBAN STRATEGY OPENS UP THE PARK USING RE-ALIGNED AXIS AND VISUAL CORRIDOR TO CREATE DIRECT VISUAL CONNECTION BETWEEN TWO SELECTED PYLONS.
